the moor.

in my head, the english moor is wild and and rugged and beautiful in a dangerous sort of way, a picture painted for me by hardy and austen and brontë. as we drove across the devon moor, though, drifting from village to sleepy village and stopping for tea, fish, and chips as we fancied, i found myself surprised at how lovely, how serene, it all was. the clouds were wildly dramatic, horses roamed freely, and it was all i could do to cup the heather in my hands and just feel happy.
