we gathered as a family -- only missing patrick, laura, and brand new baby ella -- for sunday lunch to celebrate my youngest brother-in-law's eighteenth birthday. he made a tall request for the menu -- homemade pasta! funfetti cake! -- and everyone rallied and delivered. chris' brother nick made the pasta himself (over six hours!!) and when we arrived at his apartment, it was hanging to dry from every which way. truly a sight to behold!
it was a grand afternoon of music and conversation and many hands working side by side to prepare a feast and set a table -- one of my very favorite scenes in life.
Such a good family.
