rockaway beach.

six summers a new yorker, and it's a truth that still stuns me -- the city is but a train ride away from the ocean.

last weekend, we packed books and sunscreen and headed out to rockaway beach. we watched surfers and hula dancers and children with wild curls digging in the sand. seagulls called overhead and the waves rolled in slow. we sipped coconuts on the beach and chocolate milkshakes on the train home. we rode home sandy and sleepy, proud that our shoulders weren't crisp, not even a touch.

i am so thankful for him and his adventurous heart, for taking me on dates by the sea, for being one to elevate the ordinary.

boyfriend*, you're a keeper.

*it's too endearing a name to retire completely, don't you think?
