halloween around these parts is a charmed affair. there is the occasional gory stoop scene, but for the most part it's all jack-o'-lanterns and ghosts, spiders and gossamer. few things are so enchanting as watching all of new york get into the spirit of things, and with november knocking come tomorrow, we've got a whole lot of that to look forward to from here on out. november ushers in the marathon, the thanksgiving parade, and central park at her very best; ice skating, sidewalk christmas trees, and bergdorf's holiday windows quickly follow. but halloween in the city is the start of it all, the trumpet of gaiety and glee and festivities to come.
