utah | zion, part i.

our first morning in utah, we roadtripped down to zion. i think i stared out the window the whole way. the red rock, the desert blooms, those crazy blue skies—all of it is so different from everything i know on the east coast.

the drive alone mesmerized me. tiny towns dot the highway and stretches of nothingness span between them. echoing their pioneer history, the towns are spaced every fifteen miles—roughly how far a covered wagon could travel in a day.

we arrived in zion late in the afternoon and hiked to canyon overlook and temple of sinawava as a stunning golden hour set in. the shifting light made the contrast of green and desert howl; canyon walls glowed pink and gold and red. magic.
