italy, part three | florence.

while in tuscany, we drove to florence for a day. we stumbled into the best panini of our lives (truffle and artichoke, spicy salami and sweet pepper jam) at sandwichic, and then our trio split off to embark on a whirlwind tour. we gawked at the magnificent duomo and the carousel at piazza della republica. we hunted stracciatella cones for our stroll to the accademia gallery and stood in awe at the base of michelangelo's david. we explored the nooks and crannies of cobblestone streets the color of butter and spent the close of the day along the arno river. i don't think i will ever move past the memory of it: standing atop the ponte vecchio at golden hour, breathless.

and with that, we were off for a feast of bistecca and bean soup and tiramisu, and back on the road to cortona.
