weekend in nashville.

when we learned that work would be taking me to nashville at the end of march, we couldn't help tacking on a weekend to explore. chris had never been to nashville and my dear friend kara lives there, so the timing was right for a spring weekend away. it was such a good few days filled with food (so. much. food.), live music, and wandering by foot -- my favorite way to spend a weekend, anywhere. we loved the charm of the twelve south and belmont neighborhoods and the grit of east nashville, and we crossed everything off our list except for mas tacos (we realized too late that it is closed on sundays). we will just have to save that for next time!

a few favorites from the weekend:
+ the pharmacy -- farm burgers and creamsicle sodas
+ frothy monkey -- rosemary honey lattes
+ hunting for vinyls at grimey's
+ eyeing our dream houses in twelve south
+ barista parlor -- bourbon vanilla lattes and a dreamy, dreamy space
+ johnny cash covers at robert's western world
+ shopping around twelve south -- white's mercantile and imogene + willie's
+ las paletas -- the best popsicles of our lives
+ burger up -- sweet potato and truffle fries
+ proper bagel -- everything bagels with honey lavender cream cheese

also, shout out to rolf & daughters for the best meal of our trip -- and our best meal of late. we sat at the bar and ordered whiskey cocktails and four dishes to share: homemade sourdough with seaweed butter, carrots in almond milk & rye, beef tartare, and herb & ricotta casonsei. we also shared carolina grits rice pudding. whoa.

chatting with the bartender, we learned that almost everything on the menu comes from local farms and it isn't unusual for a farmer to deliver an heirloom variety that the menu is then built around. what a cool concept, and certainly my favorite way to dine!
