the cloisters.

tucked away on a hill in northern manhattan, the cloisters is the branch of the metropolitan museum of art dedicated to medieval europe. it's stunning—a gorgeous blend of indoor and outdoor space. up there, the city falls quiet and the air is cooler and it all feels very much like a deep breath. i spent saturday there, feasting on tapestries and herb gardens and lush views of the hudson river, and wondering why it took me years to get there.
