i love a holiday in new york. the masses leave town and a peaceful, glorious quiet falls over the city, giving it a sort of small town feel and charm.
this is my fourth summer here in new york but only the first year i have been in town on the fourth of july, and what a lovely time it was. rain and chill foiled beach plans but no matter. the day filled itself with a central park stroll, pizza at joe's in the village, an afternoon viewing of a fantastic documentary (finding vivian maier), and flags waving sweetly all over the place. best of all: watching the fireworks from a rooftop in fort greene. the fireworks alone were stunning, but the show of them amid bright city lights was some kind of magic.
