(surprise) weekend in carolina.

over the weekend, i paid a surprise visit to south carolina for dad's 50th birthday. christy and i plotted for days and days. she picked me up at the airport and i rang the doorbell and a slow grin spread across his face. i'll never forget it, ever.

we filled the weekend with simple, happy things—coffee and a walk in downtown greenville, dinner with old friends, our family's traditional orange cake. my sunday flight back to new york was canceled due to the snow in the northeast; on monday, it was canceled again. my lucky day. i was glad for more sweet tea, more country drives, more time with them. i love these people so.
