hardly a week of summer went by that didn't see us perched by the pond under the grand willow tree. we savored our last picnic of summer over the weekend, gathering with friends to celebrate their darling emilia's first trip around the sun.
i noticed as we twirled ribbons and snacked on brie and sipped fizzy water that chris was in pants and the babes were in sleeves. we sought the warm, sunny patches and no longer the shaded spots -- a departure from days gone by when it was all we could do to keep cool.
autumn was nearing, the stillness was coming. and how fitting, that summer went out the very way she came in -- on the banks of turtle pond.
