there is no topping the appearance of christmas tree lots all along the sidewalks for the month of december. my single favorite moment of life in new york city, right there.
they burst forth the day after thanksgiving and every block becomes a forest of balsam and fir. i will walk through one, dragging my hands along the branches, and go out of my way to cross the street just to walk through another. i just can't get enough, when the city smells like that.
